Halloween Parade & Costume Extravaganza

On this crisp autumn day, canines from Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO gathered for the 2nd Annual Dog Halloween Parade and Costume Extravaganza. About 60 animals and their human companions assembled at the Remsen St. entrance to the Brooklyn Promenade, then scampered to the Harry Chapin Playground for judging.

The event's sponsor, Perfect Paws, awarded dog-centric prizes for costumes in categories such as best large dog, best small dog, best store-bought, best homemade and most original. All entry fees from the Parade and Costume Extravaganza are being donated to the Hillside Dog Run and the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition (BARC) and will be used to benefit the animals of Brooklyn.

Pug in a poncho? That is too cute!

We had a similar event here in Richmond. I'm still kicking myself for not having brought my camera.

However, I will definitely remember to bring my camera when they have the annual dog Easter bonnet contest this Spring. My dog had to forfeit last year (actually, she never made it to out of the house with the bonnet) because apparently dogs don't naturally tolerate foreign objects on their head? But we'll train for it this year. ;)

If I had a dog I would SO dress it up for this parade! (Loved your Coney Island parade photos as well.)

OMG, Halloween is well over but I stil got a huge hootin' hollerin' laugh from this post. Hilarious! I'm partial to bulldogs so I'd have to go with the bulldog but I must say the hot dog with ketchup was pretty funny too. Wow.

Nice post with great pics. My mother is as fanatical about her dog (Puff) as the people in your pics. She refers to the dog as being my brother. But truth be told, I don't ever remember giving me as much attention as she gives to her dog. :) I've been reduced to a step child.

Good post, I look forward to your next one.
